If you’re traveling solo and looking for somewhere peaceful, safe, and serene on São Miguel, Landescape Furnas is a gem. Tucked away in the lush volcanic valley of Furnas, this place felt like a sanctuary. It was exactly what I needed.
From the moment I arrived, I felt at ease. The gated property added a layer of comfort, and I loved that I could check myself in and settle into my space without interruption. Everything about Landescape is designed for calm. Even though it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, it’s just a short walk into Furnas village where you’ll find beautiful parks, hot springs, and some of the best food on the island.
The property comprises only five well-maintained units, ensuring an intimate atmosphere. Each studio features a private patio, a spacious layout conducive to both relaxation and activities like yoga or workouts, and a fully equipped kitchenette for those moments when you prefer to dine in.
What I Loved Most
Ultimate Privacy & Comfort: With only five standalone units on the property, it never felt crowded. Each one has its own private patio, and the layout gives you a true sense of seclusion.
The bed? Absolutely incredible. I had the best sleeps of my entire Azores trip here—something I truly appreciated.
Well-Designed & Thoughtful Touches: Everything in the unit was in perfect working order. The heated towel racks were a dream after evening soaks or rainy walks, and the soft mood lighting made evenings feel cozy and calming. I also appreciated how clean and well-maintained the space was.
Delicious Private Breakfasts: Each morning, breakfast was delivered to your unit, and you prepared it at your convenience. There’s something special about being able to enjoy breakfast in your PJs, on your own schedule, with a coffee in hand while looking out at the lush mountain views.
Friendly & Responsive Staff: While the staff leaves you to enjoy your space in peace, they were always just a quick WhatsApp message away and incredibly helpful whenever I had a question.

Getting There
Landescape Furnas is approximately a 45-minute drive from João Paulo II Airport (PDL). There are two primary routes to reach the property:
Northern Route: Travel through Ribeira Grande, passing by the Gorreana Tea Estate and Pico do Ferro viewpoint.
Southern Route: Take the highway through Vila Franca do Campo, enjoying coastal views before ascending to Furnas.
Car rentals are available at the airport, and taxis can be arranged for approximately €35–€45. Public buses also operate between Ponta Delgada and Furnas, though schedules may be limited.
Final Verdict
This was hands down my favourite place I stayed in São Miguel. It was everything I needed and more—comfortable, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed for guests who want to rest and reset in nature without sacrificing comfort or safety. If you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or just looking to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with yourself, I can’t recommend Landescape enough.
