24 Hours in Squamish with Kids: The Perfect Family Adventure Itinerary
There’s something about Squamish that makes it one of the easiest “yes” trips from the Fraser Valley.
This one started pretty simply — Aspen asked to go to her favourite park like it was just around the corner. No planning, no big lead-up… just a random weekday request.
We already had a trip into Vancouver planned for Science World with her forest school, so instead of heading straight home, we decided to keep going.
And just like that, a spontaneous idea turned into one of our favourite 24-hour family adventures.
Less than 2 hours from home, packed with playgrounds, easy hikes, great food, and just enough chaos to keep things memorable (midnight fire alarm included 😅).
If you’re looking for a simple, fun, and very doable getaway with kids — this is it.
📍 Stop 1: Sp’akw’us Feather Park
This was the entire reason for the trip — and it lived up to the hype.
Sp’akw’us Feather Park is easily one of the best playgrounds in Squamish. Right along the water, and surrounded by mountain views.
The play structures are unique enough to keep kids engaged for a while, and there’s plenty of open space to run around.
Why we loved it:
Fun & unique play structures for kids of all ages
Beautiful waterfront setting
Easy access from downtown
👉 Pair this with a stroll through downtown Squamish right after.
🛍️ Stop 2: Downtown Squamish + Kaos Kids
After the park, we wandered into town and stopped at Kaos Kids — which ended up being a highlight for Aspen.
They had the biggest selection of Great Pretenders gear we’ve seen, plus a solid toy selection (we left with monster trucks, obviously).
It’s the perfect quick stop to break up the day and let the kids explore a bit.
🍔 Dinner: Watershed Grill
If you know, you know — Jack’s. #VirginRiver
Watershed Grill is one of those classic Squamish spots that just works after a full day outside. Casual, good food, and right by the river.
🏨 Where We Stayed: Sandman Hotel (For the Waterslide)
We booked this for one reason: the indoor waterslide.
And honestly… it delivered.
Aspen was obsessed, and after a full day of exploring, it was the perfect way to burn off the last bit of energy before bed.
Real talk: we did have a midnight fire alarm that had us outside for about 45 minutes 😅 But somehow… both kids went back to sleep, so we’re calling it a win.
🌲 Stop 3: Squamish Canyon
The next morning, we headed to Squamish Canyon — and this ended up being one of the most magical stops of the trip.
The new boardwalk makes this area super accessible, and the early morning light through the forest was unreal.
There’s also a playground and a scavenger hunt element, which made it extra fun for the kids.
Why it’s worth visiting:
Easy, family-friendly walking trails
Beautiful forest + canyon views
Interactive features for kids
👉 Go early if you can — the light is worth it.
🍩 Food Stop: Fox & Oak Café
We ordered… a lot of brioche donuts.
No regrets.
Fox & Oak is one of those must-stop spots in Squamish, especially if you’re travelling with kids (or just love a good treat stop).
🌊 Stop 4: Alice Lake
Alice Lake is always a solid choice.
We kept this stop simple — playground time and hanging out by the water — but there are plenty of easy trails if you want to explore more.
Good to know:
Can get busy on weekends
Great spot for a picnic
🍦 Stop 5: Britannia Beach
This was a last-minute stop and ended up being a huge hit.
The playground has a zipline (automatic win), and there’s an easy ice cream stop nearby — which made it feel like a full experience for the kids.
Sometimes it’s the simplest stops that end up being the most memorable.
🥾 Stop 6: Murrin Provincial Park (Jurassic Ridge Trail)
We wanted to squeeze in one short hike before heading home, and this was such a good pick.
The Jurassic Ridge loop is a great option if you’re looking for something:
Short
Scenic
Less busy than other Squamish trails
The views over Howe Sound are worth it, and it’s a nice way to round out the trip with a bit of adventure.
🍔 Final Stop: Outbound Station
We wrapped up the trip with burgers and lemonade at Outbound Station — and it’s officially a new favourite.
Relaxed, family-friendly, and a perfect end to a packed 24 hours.
