Poseidon’s Plunge: Sauna + Cold Plunge on the River in Chilliwack, BC

All

Earlier this week, Tabitha and I had the chance to visit Poseidon’s Plunge, a riverside sauna and cold plunge experience in the Chilliwack River Valley— it was easily one of the most unique wellness spots I’ve been to in the area.

Set on the bank of the Chilliwack River, this spot brings the traditional sauna and plunge ritual outdoors with a fresh mountain twist. From the moment we arrived, the serene setup and warm welcome from the hosts made the experience feel special. There’s something about stepping into a wood-fired sauna with views of the rushing river and trees swaying outside that instantly calms your nervous system—even before the first plunge.

What to Expect

Poseidon’s Plunge offers a wood-fired barrel sauna with a massive picture window facing the river (yes, the views are just as dreamy as they sound). The sauna itself is incredibly spacious—perfect if you’re coming with a group or just want to stretch out and enjoy the heat.

Fun fact: the sauna itself was built by AC Forest Ltd. the same company that built our custom home sauna.

Next to the sauna, you’ll find a series of plunge tubs tucked beneath a canopy of trees, with access to the actual river when conditions allow. The setup is ideal for doing circuits—we did several rounds, moving between the hot sauna and cold tubs, gradually adding ice to the mix for a deeper reset.

We wrapped up the session with a quiet rest by the fire, listening to the river rush by. It was overcast when we visited, and honestly, it made the experience even better. A perfect prelude to fall.

How to Get There

Poseidon’s Plunge is located about 25 minutes from downtown Chilliwack and roughly 2 hours from Vancouver, depending on traffic.

From Hope, it’s just under 30 minutes. You’ll follow Chilliwack Lake Road until you reach the designated pullout near the property (they’ll provide specific parking directions when you book).

Keep in mind that it’s by reservation only, and exact directions are shared upon booking to maintain privacy and protect the natural setting.

Make a Day of It

Pair your session with a few other local favourites:

  • Land Café – One of my favourite spots for a post-plunge smoothie and lunch.

  • Banter Ice Cream

    • House-made, small-batch ice cream in seasonal flavours. Yes, even after a cold plunge, you’ll want this.

  • A hike in the Chilliwack River Valley – Tackle one of my go-to trails before your session. If you need inspiration, check out my blog on the Best Hikes in the Chilliwack Valley.

I’ve done a fair number of saunas and cold plunges over the years, but this one stood out. The riverside setting, the intentional design of the space, and the sense of calm it cultivates all made for a memorable reset. Whether you’re looking to recover after a big hike, celebrate a birthday with friends, or just need an intentional pause, Poseidon’s Plunge is worth the drive.
